Coding in 1st Grade

So I have to admit, I was wondering exactly what Mrs. Rueshhoff's class was doing for morning work.  After reading her fabulous Facebook page, I realized her little students were coding.  They were actually writing computer code that assigned an action and then created various object.  Amazing!!!

Celebrating Our Authors

Today I had an opportunity to visit a 3rd grade writing celebration.  What an amazing experience for these kiddos!  Upon entering the classroom, students knew it was going to be a fun morning.
To start the session, Ms. Whorton read her persuasive speech to the class to model the expectations.  She had a microphone and "stand" so students could really feel the part.

The the students were able to share their persuasive speeches with the class.

They also celebrated with a snack of animal crackers and juice boxes.

What a fun and engaging way to share their writing!

Closure to a Writing Mini-lesson

What a great way to end the writing lesson.....students got together with their writing partner and quickly asked to share some questions and/or suggestions with partners.  Very powerful 3 minutes of sharing!

Amazing 1st Graders!

Check out all of these amazing 1st graders who were able to login and open Microsoft Word all by themselves!  Way to go Mrs. Rueshhoff's room!

I Can Statements with a Qr Code

Check out how Ms. Whorton used a qr code to help students in their persuasive writing speeches.  They had a checklist to utilize as they were composing their google slides presentations.  If they were stuck, all they had to do was scan the qr code and it lead to a sample presentation where they could get ideas from Ms. Whorton's.

Interactive Bulletin Boards

Looking for a way to increase engagement?  Check out these fun bulletin boards!

This one has a qr code where students can scan it watch their classmates reciting a poem and a poem for kiddos to practice each week.
